Toshiba Introduced World’s First 14TB HDD

Toshiba Electronic Components Taiwan Corporation has announced the launch of the MG07ACA Series, the world’s first enterprise 14TB Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) HDD.

Using a 9-disk, helium-sealed design, the new MG07ACA Series provides the power-efficient capacity and storage density needed by cloud-scale and enterprise storage solution providers to achieve their TCO objectives.

“We have raised the bar with the new MG07ACA Series 9-disk helium-sealed design,” said Tadashi Sakaue, Division President, Storage Products Division, Toshiba Electronics Components Taiwan Corporation.“By utilizing an innovative design, we continue to improve the benefits that high-capacity disk storage can deliver to our broad global customer base.”

The MG07ACA Series features both 14TB 9-disk and 12TB 8-disk models. The helium-sealed 3.5-inch[3] mechanical design realizes better storage density and a lower HDD operating power profile than the previous MG06ACA Series for optimal TCO in cloud-scale infrastructures.

Huawei MateBook D (2018) With 8th Gen Intel Processors Launched: Price, Specifications

 Chinese electronics and telecommunications giant Huaweihas refreshed its MateBook D notebook with updated specifications. The new MateBook D (2018) runs Windows 10 and comes with 8th generation Intel Core processors and an improved GPU.As we mentioned, Huawei has launched the latest Matebook D (2018) which succeeds the original variant launched in May this year. Huawei had also announced MateBook X and MateBook E alongside the MateBook D earlier this year. The notebook is based on Windows 10 OS.

The new MateBook D (2018) borrows the metal unibody design from its predecessor. The notebook sports a 15.6-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) with 83 percent screen ratio. It is now powered by the new 8th generation Intel Core i5, i7 processors and a new dedicated Nvidia GeForce MX150. The GPU is a significant upgrade over last year's Nvidia GeForce 940MX. The notebook comes in three variants - the most affordable one has a Core i5-8250U processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Nvidia GeForce MX150 GPU, and is priced at CNY 5,188 (roughly Rs. 50,900). The second variant has specifications such as an Intel Core i5-8250U chipset, 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, the same GPU, and is priced at CNY 5,488 (roughly Rs. 53,900).

Samsung India on Wednesday launched the "world's biggest curved monitor" for gaming enthusiasts and business professionals for Rs. 1,50,000. A 49-inch ultra-wide curved QLED monitor, the Samsung CHG90 was first unveiled in June this year, and hit certain markets in August. It has now arrived in India, and is already available to purchase via Samsung's online store. The Samsung CHG90 will also become available to buy via retail stores soon.

"Samsung has always been at the forefront of consumer-centric innovations and the launch of QLED curved monitor is in line with that very commitment," Puneet Sethi, Vice-President, Consumer Electronics Enterprise Business, Samsung India, told reporters in New Delhi at the monitor's launch event.

The Samsung CHG90 49-inch curved monitor supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) for improved contrast and colour depth. On Tuesday, Samsung also announced that the CHG90 had become the first monitor to be certified as DisplayHDR compliant by Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA).

"Up until recently, there had been no standard specification for the HDR performance of PC monitors and laptop computer displays. But earlier this year, VESA, an international non-profit that sets and supports industry-wide interface standards for displays, established the DisplayHDR standard," the company's blog post read, adding, "When granting DisplayHDR 600 certification to the CHG90, VESA cited the monitor's use of HDR to elevate contrast ratio (3,000:1), colour accuracy and overall presentation vibrancy as an industry standard-setter."

Getting back to the India launch, Samsung says the CHG90 monitor offers an "eye saver mode" to enhance eye comfort, obstruct blue light, and reduce eye fatigue, apart from its Flicker Free tech.

The Samsung CHG90 curved QLED monitor has a curvature of 1800R, an aspect ratio of 32:9 (3480x1080 pixels), and provides a 1ms motion picture response time to prevent "ghost" images. The monitor also boasts a refresh rate of 144Hz.

Ports on the Samsung CHG90 include 2 HDMI ports, DisplayPort, Mini DisplayPort, USB Hub, 3.5mm headphone jack, and 3.5mm audio in.

Sophia, The World's First Robot Citizen

A robot with an uncannily human-like appearance recently advanced one step closer to human status, when it was granted citizenship to Saudi Arabia at the tech summit Future Investment Initiative (FII).   

Named "Sophia," the robot, created by Hanson Robotics (HR), has a pale-skinned face with features that are capable of being highly mobile and expressive and displaying a range of emotions. The company's "latest and most advanced robot," according to a statement on the HR website took to the stage at FII on Oct. 25 to address hundreds of attendees in Riyahd, Saudi Arabia, and to announce her recently acquired citizenship — the first to be given to a robot, the BBC reported.

"I am very honored and proud for this unique distinction," Sophia said during her onstage appearance, which was shared on YouTube by Arab News. "This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship," the robot said.

She can express feelings

"I can let you know if I am angry about something or if something has upset me," she said, demonstrating different expressions. Quite how these emotions correlate to actions are unknown, but it's interesting to note that this is being developed from the ground up. "I want to live and work with humans so I need to express the emotions to understand humans and build trust with people.

She was designed to look like Audrey Hepburn

According to Hanson Robotics, Sophia embodies Hepburn’s classic beauty: porcelain skin, a slender nose, high cheekbones, an intriguing smile, and deeply expressive eyes that seem to change color with the light. They describe her as having 'simple elegance,' and hope that this approachability will go some way to her acceptance in the public sphere.

Google launches Android Oreo Go edition for low-end phones

 

At Google I/O in May of this year, Google promised a version of Android custom-designed for low-end devices. Today, “Android Go (Oreo edition)” is being made available for device manufacturers and developers. That doesn’t mean it’s available to users yet — but presumably that’ll happen in fairly short order.

The premise behind Android Go is pretty simple. It’s a build of Android Oreo that is designed to run better on phones with either 512MB or 1GB of RAM. By comparison, the Pixel 2 (like most flagships) has 4GB of RAM, while the iPhone X has 3GB and the Galaxy Note 8 has a whopping 6GB.

Making the same operating system work on both flagships and the cheapest of cheap phones is a challenge, but it’s one Google says it’s overcome. Go edition is not meant to be a “fork” of Android Oreo so much as a variant that a manufacturer can just set by ticking off a configuration flag.

 

Microsoft's Near Share to Bring AirDrop Like Experience to Windows 10

Attempting to counter Apple, Microsoft has built its own AirDrop alternative for Windows 10 which it calls "Near Share". The new feature has started been in testing in the latest Insider build (17035) of the latest Windows platform and is compatible with all the systems that have Bluetooth support.
As its name suggests, Windows 10's Near Share feature allows you to share your files and URLs to nearby Windows PCs via Bluetooth. You can start sharing content after turning on the Near Share option that comes as a quick action in the Action Centre. If a nearby PC user shares the content with you, you'll receive a notification that you need to accept to get initiate the sharing.
Your Windows 10 system needs to be based on RS4 Build 17035 or above to enable sharing through Near Share. Moreover, default apps such as Photos, Microsoft Edge, and File Explorer will have a Share icon that gives wireless transfer access with one click.
In case you don't see the Near Share quick action in your Action Center, you can add it by going to Settings > Notifications & Action > Add or remove quick actions.
Similar to Apple's AirDrop on macOS and iOS, Microsoft's Near Share is currently exclusive to Windows 10. But the scope of both the features is similar - revolving around wireless transfer. Earlier this week, Google even spotted with its own wireless transfer app for Android devices called Files Go. The lightweight app was seemed to be designed for emerging markets.
Alongside the Near Share feature, the Insider Preview Build 17035 of Windows 10 brings "Mute a Tab" functionality to Microsoft Edge. The new development allows you to mute a tab playing sound by clicking a dedicated audio icon. Google's Chrome browser has offered a similar feature for a long time.
The new Windows 10 Insider build also includes an option to save free EPUB books from Microsoft Edge, context menu options for books, and a bunch of improvements in terms of software updates, sound, ease of access and keyboard layouts. Besides, there are many bug fixes and performance enhancements as well as Surface hardware listing on Microsoft Store app.

Facebook takes on YouTube with Watch, its new episodic video service

Facebook has for years trying to take on its arch rival Google's video platform YouTube. The social media giant has pushed its live videos to more users in the past few months, in addition to introducing more video editing tools. Also, the company has been rumoured to launch TV-like shows for past many months. Finally, Mark Zuckerberg and his team have announced a new tab inside the main Facebook app, marking the company's full-fledged entry into video space. The new tab called 'Watch', as Facebook says, brings original video content onto the social media platform, which also makes it stand tall against the likes of YouTube, Amazon Prime and Netflix.

The new 'Watch' tab for now is limited in the US region on mobile, desktop and Facebook TV apps. "Shows are made up of episodes — live or recorded — and follow a theme or storyline. To help you keep up with the shows you follow, Watch has a Watchlist so you never miss out on the latest episodes," said Daniel Danker, director of product, Facebook in an official blog post. The tab will also tell users what their friends on Facebook are watching.

The tab will have section such as Most Talked About, What's Making People Laugh and What Friends Are Watching. Each video will also show user comments.
