Try New Firefox Smart Phone OS on your computer

Try New Firefox Smart Phone OS on your computer......

Firefox OS (project name: Boot to Gecko, also known as B2G) is a Linux-based open-source operating system for smartphones and tablet computers. It is being developed by Mozilla, the non-profit organization best known for the Firefox web browser.

Firefox OS was publicly demonstrated in February 2012, on Android-compatible smartphones, and again in 2013 running on Raspberry Pi In January 2013, at CES 2013, ZTE confirmed they would be shipping a smartphone with Firefox OS, and on July 2, 2013, Telefónica launched the first commercial Firefox OS based phone, ZTE Open, in Spain which was quickly followed by GeeksPhone's Peak+.

Presently, you cannot install it on your phone, but the only way you can get a feel of it is by using a simulator on your desktop PC. The operating system is based on three major software layers within—Gonk (the Linux kernel), Gecko (the application runtime) and Gaia (the user interface).  It is available for testing on all platforms, namely, Windows, Mac and Linux.

What you need to get the Firefox OS running on your desktop PC is just the Firefox browser extension and, of course, the browser itself. The procedure is similar to all operating system platforms. Let’s get started.
To run Firefox OS on your Desktop follow the following steps....
1. Install latest Firefox browser....

2. Next, you will need the simulator extension. Click on this link and add it to your firefox browser. This add-on is large (50-70MB), because it bundles a complete simulation of Firefox OS, including its default apps. So it takes multiple seconds for Firefox to install the add-on. Sometimes it takes so long that Firefox's Unresponsive Script dialog appears. If that happens, press the Continue button to let Firefox continue installing the add-on. It will eventually succeed.

3. Click on the button + Add to Firefox. Firefox will download the requested add-on and ask you to confirm that you want to install it.

4. Click on the button Install – the add-on will be installed.

5. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button, go over to the Web Developer menu, and click Firefox OS Simulator.

The simulator will start and you may now start playing with Firefox OS!
